And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.
They pulled the carrying poles out so far that the ends could be seen from the holy place in front of the inner sanctuary, but they couldn't be seen from outside the temple. And they remained there to this day.
This verse describes how the poles used to carry the Ark of the Covenant were positioned in Solomon's temple - visible from inside but not from outside.
📚 Historical Context
In the biblical narrative of 1 Kings, this verse is part of the account of King Solomon dedicating the First Temple in Jerusalem, which was built as a permanent house for God around 960 BC. The Ark of the Covenant, a sacred chest symbolizing God's presence among the Israelites, was placed in the Holy of Holies, and the staves were the carrying poles that were intentionally left in place so their ends could be seen from the Holy Place but not from outside. This detail underscores the reverence and careful handling of holy objects in ancient Israelite worship.
